Two-Year colleges tend to attract larger percentages of students of color. In fact, a significant percentage of two-year institutions are designated as "Minority Serving Institutions" (MSI). African-American males, however, are an inordinately small percentage of the makeup of students of color at many institutions. There are several theories being discussed about this phenomenon, and we'll discuss them and relate them to our recruitment and retention efforts in our own mass communication programs.
