This presentation discusses the limitations of traditional literary criticism in capturing spatial dimensions and explores the potential of combining literary cartography with digital tools to gain new insights into literary texts. While maps and literary descriptions can provide some sense of spatial dimensions, they cannot fully capture the experiential aspect of space. I argue that digital technologies offer innovative avenues for analyzing literary works and invite us to revisit traditional forms of literature. I present a preliminary study where I have combined literary cartography with digital tools to analyze the Brazilian novel O Quinze by Rachel de Queiroz published in 1930. I utilized ArcGIS to create multiple maps, three of which are showcased in this study. In addition, I developed a story map using the ArcGIS StoryMaps tool. The analysis shows how the combination of literary cartography and digital technologies can provide new perspectives and interpretations that were previously unattainable through traditional methods. The article emphasizes the need to adapt to the changes brought about by digital technologies and embrace innovative forms of analysis. I believe that by doing so, we can explore new dimensions of meaning and significance in literature. In conclusion, the article highlights the importance of combining literary cartography with digital technologies to enhance literary criticism through spatial dimensions. The study demonstrates the potential of digital tools to offer new perspectives and interpretations of literary texts, making literary analysis more dynamic and engaging.
