Research into Holocaust Education Curriculum, Policy and Practice

Wed, March 11, 9:45 to 11:15am, Washington Hilton, Floor: Terrace Level, Cardozo

Abstract

This paper examines recent trends in Holocaust education research around the world, particularly those represented in the twenty chapters of this new book. (It is thus a literature review.) Important trends include the universalization of Holocaust education as it is increasingly taught in contexts far from its occurrence, and for purposes such as promoting human rights and responsible citizenship. Much research is still local, exploratory, and qualitative, but put together, it gives a strong sense of the issues the field faces. Among these is the emergence of new technologies and the passing of the last survivors.
