Moving toward accreditation in higher education amid conflict: Challenges and successes of university quality assurance processes in Afghanistan

Wed, March 28, 3:00 to 4:30pm, Hilton Reforma, Floor: 4th Floor, Doña Sol

Proposal

The MoHE in Afghanistan has established the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Directorate (QAAD) and the Quality Assurance Commission (QAC). Both entities have made some strides toward establishing a stable and consistent higher education accreditation system in Afghanistan. In the most recent review cycle, eight public and private universities progressed to the highest level possible, one stage short of full accreditation. However, with this progress comes feedback and reflection concerning challenges in: self-assessment reporting, peer review, commission feedback to the universities, professional development of the QAAD membership, program review, and university strategic planning. The presentation will outline these challenges and the way forward.
