This presentation shares findings from the 2017/8 GEM Report: Accountability in Education: Meeting our Commitments that attempts to answer the questions: Who is responsible for addressing school-related gender-based violence and what can be done? School-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) tends to be underreported, as it often involves taboos. Addressing it requires a multilevel approach, including effective laws and policies, relevant curricula and learning materials, educator training and support, partnerships between education and other sectors, and monitoring and evaluation. The presentation assesses the types of legislation and supporting policies that can help address SRGBV, as well as the most suitable child-friendly reporting systems, and the role that teachers and curriculum content can play. This presentation will look at the concrete evidence-based policy recommendations proposed in the Report for addressing the issue through an accountability lens.
