Mon, March 26, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Hilton Reforma, Floor: 4th Floor, Don Alberto 4

Proposal

• Mexico Human Rights Public Policy (Enfoque DH) Activity: The Mexico Human Rights Public Policy (Enfoque DH) Activity seeks to provide direct technical assistance to the Government of Mexico in building human rights policy by incorporating human rights-based approaches into the Government of Mexico initiatives, strengthening the governmental capacity at the federal and state level in order to align with international human rights standards.

Through the dual perspectives of internationally-recognized human rights advocate, founder and director of Citizens in Support of Human Rights, B.C. (CADHAC, in Spanish), Sister Consuelo Morales, and a student and/or faculty representative from the prestigious Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM, in Spanish), and this presentation will discuss how collaboration between NGOs and university students can generate mutually beneficial outcomes. In this regard, CADHAC, through an active grant under the EnfoqueDH Activity, is evaluating if local police are incorporating a human rights perspective in the application of the use of force in detention centers. Through an alliance with ITESM, students directly support CADHAC with the systemization of periodical surveys, which are used by CADHAC to evaluate the use of force in detention centers. With this support, these students contribute to a meaningful initiative that hopes to inform the use of force protocols in the State of Nuevo León. Presenters will discuss the impact that these alliances have on youth and the mission and efforts of CADHAC at large.
