Education Sector Development in a Conflict-Affected Context: The Case of South Sudan

Proposal

This presentation will discuss how the Global Partnership for Education’s operating model has been applied in South Sudan to support building the basics of an education system. It will outline the GPE model and the experiences with GPE-supported education sector plan development and program implementation. The presentation will recount some lessons that guided the development of a new education program in South Sudan, based on bilateral interviews with key education partners in South Sudan as well as a final evaluation of the GPE-supported program (2013-2018). Some successes in South Sudan have included work on the curriculum and strengthening school management, while school construction and teacher training pose persistent challenges.
