Proposal

In recent times, determinants of educational attainment of children with disabilities have received much attention from governments, policymakers and researchers. Similarly, governments and development organizations have been working actively for the promotion of inclusive education all around the world. With this background in mind, time is about right to analyze how these determinants affect the educational attainment of children with disabilities in Pakistan.
This paper aims to estimate the impact, if any, that the household characteristics have on the educational attainment of the children with disabilities, while controlling for other factors such as parents’ education, number of siblings, child’s age and gender etc., in Pakistan. The data that the author plans to use for this purpose is from a disability prevalence survey of 5000 Households which is targeted at the 5-16 years age group and is being conducted in two of the most densely populated provinces of the country, Punjab and Sindh, by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi (ITA). Since this is the first time that a large scale survey is using Washington Group on Disability Statistics Child Functioning Module to estimate the disability prevalence among children in Pakistan, unique results, which build upon the existing literature, can be expected. In addition to this, the efficacy of the instruments (Washington Group on Disability Statistics Child Functioning Module and ASER Pakistan’s Household Questionnaire) used for data collection during this survey ensures that efficient and robust estimates can be generated by employing the OLS method.
Therefore, this paper will not only further our understanding of the factors that contribute towards the educational attainment of CWDs in Pakistan, but will also provide us with key policy insights regarding the matter at hand.
