Concepts, Objectives, and Achievements of McGovern-Dole International Food for Education Programs: An Introduction

Thu, April 18, 1:30 to 3:00pm, Hyatt Regency, Floor: Pacific Concourse (Level -1), Pacific M

Proposal

This presentation will provide examples of the McGovern-Dole program concepts, impacts, and overall achievements. The key objective of this session is for audience members to emphasize the importance of continuous improvements and sustainability of programming through an exchange of lessons learned.

Efforts to improve sustainability concentrate on building capacity and commitment in host government and school communities to continue McGovern-Dole supported activities beyond the life of U.S. government-funded programs. USDA has additionally supported complementary local and regional procurement (LRP) programs for school feeding commodities. These programs expand capacity in food-insecure developing countries through development activities aimed at addressing causes of food insecurity, a significant factor influencing academic achievement.
