Community Colleges are an important pathway from secondary school to further higher education pursuits for many low-income communities of color both in the United States and increasingly, globally. In this paper, the various programs and supports offered to young women of color by Berkeley City College are discussed and analyzed vis-a-vis the framework of enhancing agency and opportunity. The perspectives presented are from a practitioner, the President of Berkeley City College, and reflect engagement as a scholar and leader in California Community Colleges for over two decades.
