Education will change the world, but for who?

Proposal

As a local practictioner I will be exploring how a intervention girl's education program my school designed and implements has impacted girl's education as well as the limitations of our program. Our program is situated in Northeastern India a part of our country that has often been excluded from conversations on efforts to change the education landscape for girl's in India. The unique sociocultural, linguistic, and economic nature of Assam is important to consider as India works toward bridging the gender inequality gap. In Assam girl's face a unique set of circumstances that serve as barriers to education. My paper will identify these barriers, the steps our program has taken to alleviate these barriers, and how the girls we serve understand and situate themselves in the local, national, and global landscape. I want to end by defining what education means for communities in Assam and putting this in conversation with western ideas of education which do not always capture the complexities of our lives and experiences.
