Ms. Bagby will describe the methodology being used by the Rapid Feedback MERL consortium in Senegal to study the Lecture Pour Tous Early Grade Reading program supported by USAID. This study uses three foundational RF MERL approaches – formative research, Lean Testing, and randomized controlled trials – to assess three key research questions. For the randomized controlled trial, the study team is randomly selecting parents, teachers, and students from a sample of approximately 270 schools to compare children’s learning outcomes and teacher attitudes and behavior in schools that received community engagement activities and schools that did not. Formative research and Lean Testing complement the randomized controlled trial and include key informant interviews and focus group discussions with school directors, community volunteers, teachers, school committee members, and parents.
