“Leaving no one behind when learning starts”: An investigation of inclusive education investment strategies across major international donors

Wed, April 17, 8:00 to 9:30am, Hyatt Regency, Floor: Bay (Level 1), Bayview B

Proposal

“Leaving no one behind when learning starts” is a project aimed at increasing disability-inclusive investment in Early Childhood Development (ECD). Light for the World has undertaken the task of looking at investment trends of 10 major donors in order to see to what extent their work on ECD is disability inclusive. We know that if their investments are disability inclusive during those early childhood development years there is immense potential to reduce the disabling effects of the impairments and improve the learning outcomes for children with disabilities over their lifetime.
More specifically, this project 1) supports strategic advocacy efforts towards increasing disability-inclusive investment in ECD, 2) increases awareness amongst parents, professionals and other relevant networks about the importance of ECD, and 3) enhances the capacities of community based rehabilitation workers to deliver improved early intervention services through better, more informed investment and funding strategies.
The presentation will summarize an analysis of inclusive ECD funding levels and to what extent the funders have been disability inclusive in their ECD programs. It will also will present best practices for inclusive investment funding across donors.
