Part II - Pre-Service Teacher Professional Development: Florida State University’s (FSU) partnership with De Lectores a Líderes is aimed at adapting the content and pedagogical approaches of the new in-service early grade reading training to the context of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán (UPNFM) and its Regional Campuses. UPNFM is the government-authorized institution to certify basic education teachers in Honduras. FSU will provide technical assistance in the areas of evidence-based courses content and teaching practices to the UPNFM pre-service teachers delivering early grade reading-related courses. To evaluate the structures, teaching methods, and specific strengths and constraints in the context of this higher education institution, FSU conducted a mixed-methods baseline assessment that included the participation of administrators, professors and students. This presentation will provide an overview of relevant findings with particular emphasis on related implications in light of the current Honduras’ education policy. In addition, challenges, possible solutions and next steps will be discussed.
