Group Submission Type: Refereed Round-Table Session
With the expansion of international educational institutions that focus on promoting sustainability agendas worldwide, there is a lack of conversation about the complexities intertwined with the broad and often elusive term "social sustainability." Discussants have researched and/or practiced at “green schools” that incorporate a "whole school approach" to sustainability education in different international contexts: Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Indonesia. The exploration of how these respective institutions conceptualize and enact "social sustainability" - while highlighting the theoretical and practical challenges and successes within each program - will provide a rich cross-context discussion for academics, practitioners, and program developers alike.
