Group Submission Type: Refereed Round-Table Session
Global migration is at an all-time high and CIES is responding, having recently approved a new Global Migration SIG. This roundtable inaugurates the SIG and initiates conversation about trends in methods and theory in the study of migration flows, spaces and intersections. We will raise timely questions and provide a nourishing space for innovative exploration of migration phenomena. Presenters will discuss their research/thinking about equity-oriented evaluation with migrant youth, research with undocumented, detained migrant youth and those in schools that intervene upon their “at risk” status, and interdisciplinary approaches to migrant experience that combine sociology, political science, geography and history.
Biopolitical pedagogy: Living spaces as learning spaces - Cathryn Magno, University of Fribourg
Urban refugees in gateway cities: Race, space, place making - Jamie Lew, Rutgers University
Demystifying power relations in evaluation research with transnational migrant youth: A framework for equity - Sophia Rodriguez, University of North Carolina at Greensboro; Jeremy Acree, University of North Carolina, Greensboro
Geosocial spaces of educational detention/transition - Jamie A. Kowalczyk, Concordia University, Chicago
Decolonial interrogation of immigrant education - Jordan Corson, Teachers College, Columbia University
