Group Submission Type: Refereed Round-Table Session
This roundtable offers insights from three case studies of interdisciplinary programs for sustainable and critical development education emphasizing questions of knowledge production, power and inequalities, and theory-practice connections. Three programs at the University of Minnesota offer education and research programs focused on global social and environmental justice and sustainable development. The Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC), the Institute on the Environment (ionE) and the Master of (International) Development Practice provide distinct and innovative approaches to these questions emphasizing broad interdisciplinarity, critical thinking, and theory-practice connections. This roundtable will present case studies on these three educational programs and how we might learn from their experience to strengthen related programs, as well as exploring the implications of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDDGs) for reshaping sustainability education.
