Proposal

This round-table session focuses on teachers’ sustainable professional development in Shanghai. Drawing on rich empirical data, the first three studies explore the specific approaches adopted to improve teaching ability in public and migrant schools. These current developments can be better understood along with the historical investigation in the last study. While a range of policy actors and scholars based in the West has interpreted Shanghai’s outstanding performance in international tests, this session aims to provide some internal perceptions that can form a more nuanced and balanced understanding of the Shanghai model, and from which more reflective inspirations can be derived.
