New Scholars Essentials: Academia and womanhood: navigating boundaries, inequities, and relationships [open to all]

Description of Session

This session provides a supportive knowledge-sharing space for people who identify as women scholars. As scholars in an era of the #metoo movement and several high profile cases that highlight intersecting inequalities in higher education, we offer a session in which established women scholars can share their personal experiences with the following topics:
· Navigation of relationships and boundaries

· Exploitation of labour (including emotional labour)

· Balancing family, creativity, motherhood, and more

· Encounters with inequities and injustices

· Advice and strategies for other women scholars

· Advice and strategies for allies


Following short presentations by each of the panelists, the discussant will facilitate a question and dialogue period. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions – especially those that are sometimes difficult to name or engage with in normative conference spaces.
*Please note that this an inclusive session that welcomes the attendance of all gender identities including men, trans women, non-binary people, and other gender minorities. We welcome anyone who wishes to strengthen their understandings and abilities as allies.

This panel is part of the New Scholars' Committee Essentials Series, and has been planned in collaboration with the Gender and Education Committee.
