The panel continues with a presentation by Krystal Strong, co-Editor of the Special Issue on Black
Lives Matter and Global Struggles for Racial Justice and core organizer with Black Lives Matter Philadelphia. The presentation focuses on: (1) the critical pivot within the Movement for Black Lives towards an engagement with racial capitalism as the political economic foundation of anti-Black racism and state violence, and (2) the praxes of reparative justice articulated within the movement, which offer a reconstructive vision of what it will take to undo these realities. Specifically, the presentation examines growing demands for reparations within Black Lives Matter, and the Movement for Black Lives’ “Vision for Black Lives” platform of demands for structural change, which anticipate horizons of justice necessary for justice within and beyond education.
