Reflections on implementation of large-scale pilot of national accelerated basic education program, impact on learning outcomes and retention

Sun, February 19, 4:45 to 6:15pm EST (4:45 to 6:15pm EST), Grand Hyatt Washington, Floor: Independence Level (5B), Farragut Square

Proposal

The panelist will reflect on the development of an accelerated learning framework, teacher training and learning materials, and the integration of social emotional learning into the ABE curriculum in Somalia and the considerations for similar initiatives in conflict-affected contexts facing multiple crises. The panelist will also discuss findings emerging from the implementation of the large-scale pilot of the accelerated basic education program enrolling more than 100,000 marginalized out-of-school children in some of the hardest to reach districts in Somalia and an analysis of the impact on learning outcomes and retention, and the adaptations made in response to student needs and shifting contextual circumstances.
