Cost Data as Key Evidence: Teacher Professional Development in Crisis Settings

Sun, February 19, 8:00 to 9:30am EST (8:00 to 9:30am EST), Grand Hyatt Washington, Floor: Constitution Level (3B), Roosevelt

Proposal

What are the costs of teacher professional development in crisis settings, and how much do the costs of these programs vary across countries? Given different costs, what does evidence say about which approaches will be most cost-effective and why? This presentation will review data from 5 countries—two cost-effectiveness studies from impact evaluations, and more than a dozen cost-efficiency analyses of routine programs—to unpack these questions. It will showcase what the Implementer has learned about the costs and cost-effectiveness of teacher development activities over the last half decade, and demonstrate an approach to using cost data as one part of a data-driven conversation about program best practices.
