Proposal

The "Manos que Cuidan'' project is a humanitarian initiative implemented in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the Centro de Desarrollo y Autogestión (DYA), the Fundación de las Américas para el Desarrollo (FUDELA). The two-generation approach-- synergy between Early Childhood Development and Livelihoods for Economic Recovery has been the core design of the project that aims to both increase caregivers’ income and improve early childhood development outcomes. First, training in relevant market-oriented skills seed capital and parenting skill training were combined. Second, community-based childcare was established to create an integrated approach that addresses barriers to childcare for working mothers and fathers. Preliminary results show: 100 primary caregivers of young children have received seed capital, of which 44% have increased their income by 50%. According to pre- and post-surveys, 73% of caregivers have increased their knowledge and skills to provide responsive care and early learning at home.
