A successful model for coordinating multiple inputs from developing partners into the same MoE reform initiative.

Wed, March 13, 8:00 to 9:30am, Hyatt Regency Miami, Floor: Third Level, Boardroom

Proposal

The STEP Activity is working with the Malawi Ministry of Education (MoE) to improve the quality of teacher education taking place in all public and private TTCs in Malawi. The MoE is currently undergoing three major reforms to teacher education, i.e., introducing a primary education diploma, rolling out a revised CPD program, and overhauling their education management information system (EMIS). In response, multiple development partners have committed funding to support the implementation of these reforms. These different funding streams—each with their own priorities and expectations—have the potential to inadvertently derail the reform process.
This presentation will explain the importance of the development partners’ support, the potential pitfalls that may come because of these separate investments, an overview of FSU’s successful approach to supporting the MoE in the coordination of these multiple investments, and concrete examples of how FSU’s approach has prevented potential pitfalls. This presentation will help current and future CIES members undertaking similar work by sharing a successful model for improving coordination, co-planning, and co-funding of multiple development partner investments into the same reform initiative.
