Once (actually it is just on August,16) I got the information that the 2024 CIES conference theme is on the power of protest, the first idea came to my mind is that Schwab has explored this issue in educational depth in his book College College Curriculum and Student Protest (Schwab, 1969,University of Chicago press). But most ironically, the book was considered as a very contraversal one at the time when it just published and accordingly Schwab was labeled as a traditional, conservative and even as a counter-protester scholar.
For me, as a Chinese scholar and a long time reader and researcher of Schwab's 'THE practical‘ ’curriculum theory, I would like to revisit Schwab's book and related articles and other scholars reviews of this book in late 60s and in the 70s in last century.
Protest is usually considered as a political event. Schwab treated it as symtomatic for education in General and in Curriculum in particular. the paper will employ the chinese Confucius ideas about harmoniness and the classic sociaological conflict theory to present my ideas
