The improvement of education and instruction in universities has been a significant priority for Chinese government and academic institutions in recent years. There has been a strong emphasis on developing a world-class higher education system to foster innovation, research, and produce a skilled workforce capable of driving the nation's progress. Several key areas of development and reform have been undertaken to achieve these goals, such as the improvement of curriculum & instruction and internationalization.

To provide suggestions for enhancing the education and instruction of China’s universities, this panel consisting of five articles, focuses on discussing factors influencing the cultivation of postgraduates and engineering undergraduates, and investigating the university teachers' international academic influence. The research methodology employed compasses both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Using the framework of university function theory, fusion theory and ground theory, and qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as the case study, we finally concluded that: 1. fundamental factor of doctoral training mode based on interdisciplinary centers in the stage of coexistence development is the top-level design of interdisciplinary centers, and the fundamental factor in the stage of coexistence development is the developing of interdisciplinary research teams; In the stage of cohesive development, the fundamental factor is the interdisciplinary psychological identification of different personnel; 2. the effects of authoritarian supervisor leadership on Chinese PhD students’ research career aspirations have two sides; 3. B University was lack of organizing postgraduates to communicating science; 4. deep learning improves research output as well as academic performance for engineering students, and strategic learning approaches positively influences academic performance but may inadvertently hinder research output. 5. there is significant difference in the average level of teachers' international academic influence, and teachers' international academic influence was affected by some factors such as international academic visits.

In conclusion, this abstract explores the improvement of education and instruction in universities in China. Through detailed analysis of the topics included in this panel, we provide theoretical and practical implications for improvement of higher education in China.
