Kulea Watoto (meaning Nurturing Children in Kiswahili) is a 3-year project that has brought together both livelihoods and ECD implementers, researchers, and policy experts to build a program that responds to the unique needs of refugee caregivers of young children in both urban and rural locations in Uganda. The International Rescue Committee (IRC), together with four strong local partners seeks to boost household incomes while improving parenting skills, child nutrition and access to early learning. This presentation will share preliminary findings from the first phase of the Kulea Watoto project, drawing from monitoring and evaluation data and a pre-post survey analysis that includes measures of childhood development (CREDI and ECDI), household economic status and income.
