Building Evidence in Education (BE2), the working group of over 40 funders of education research (bilateral funders, multilateral organizations and foundations) has been discussing how to apply implementation research in education since its annual meeting in 2019 hosted by USAID. Subsequently, a guidance note on implementation research was co-created to be used by governments, implementers and funders of research programs: https://www.edu-links.org/sites/default/files/media/file/Guidance_Note_on_Using_Implementation_Research_in_Education.pdf
The guidance note defines implementation research as research concerned with “why and how an intervention or reform works by considering the context, stakeholders, and process of implementation.”
This presentation will draw on the guidance note and other recent experiences to frame the panel discussion by sharing how implementation research fits into the research landscape, why BE2 members and other organizations are focused on it, how digital contexts are changing implementation research, and how the education sector can benefit from it.
