The role of technology advancement in connecting data and data systems and increasing use

Sat, March 22, 2:45 to 4:00pm, Palmer House, Floor: 7th Floor, LaSalle 1

Proposal

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital information, the seamless integration and communication between data and data systems have become increasingly essential for organizations to harness the full potential of their data-driven strategies. The rapid advancements in technology have paved the way for new possibilities in information management and delivery, transforming the role of information technology from a mere support function to a strategic partner in driving organizational success.

One of the ways technologies can be used to connect data and data systems is by leveraging them, especially in sharing existing evidence. Where data and data systems exist the “last mile” of data dissemination and sharing has often been left out by funders and data generators. Another opportunity is to use data dashboards for increased uses and users especially connecting sub-national evidence generators themselves and with the decision makers.

Fragmentation and lack of interoperability between disparate data systems have long been a challenge faced by organizations, hampering their ability to gain a comprehensive view of their data and make informed decisions. Shared repositories and evidence hubs will be utilized to operationalize the connection of data and evidence funders, generators and users within the ecosystem. In addition, connecting existing repositories such as University repositories and shared portals of microdata held by non-state actors is a feasible avenue to enhance access to data. An evidence Hub will be a game-changer where the various actors in the foundational learning ecosystem deposit data and evidence to be utilized by all the actors in the ecosystem.

The regional and pan-African community of learning will also leverage technology, especially in the establishment of a synchronous database and global public goods for enhanced access to education, especially for communities left behind and for building capacities of policy stakeholders to utilize evidence.
