Health information technology enables patients to manage health care using patient portals and apps. Research shows that portals boost patient involvement, self-management, and satisfaction. However, adoption and usage of patient portals are low, particularly among emerging adults who are new to self-management. This study explores the behavioral intentions of emerging adults towards adopting and using patient portals, using the Technology Acceptance Model and Perceived Risk Theory. Survey responses were collected and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings emphasize the need for healthcare organizations and the government to implement practical insights and strategies to address resistance and encourage portal usage.
