Is RFID Still Useful?

Abstract

This research reviews the use of RFID in the context of supply chain management. Despite its initial introduction to both professional and academic sectors about 20 years ago, the utilization of RFID in supply chains continues to grow. The merging of RFID system data with other advanced technologies like AI and IoT, has further enhanced its potential. Reevaluating the present condition of RFID also offers an insight into the typical lifecycle of new technology adoption in business, and presents an opportunity to explore ways to optimize the return on technology investments.
