Assessing the Paradoxes in the Use of Pervasive, Ubiquitous, and Intelligent Information Technology

Sat, November 18, 10:00 to 11:30am, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Floor: Lobby Level, L506

Abstract

The concept of paradoxes of technology (PT) refers to the experiences with contradictory qualities when users interact with a technology (Mick & Fournier, 1998; Jarvenpaa & Lang, 2005). Different paradoxes have been identified with different types of technologies in different research contexts (Mick & Fournier, 1998; Jarvenpaa & Lang, 2005; Johnson et al., 2008; D’Arcy et al., 2014). This study tries to consolidate these dimensions and present a measurement instrument to capture the pervasive, ubiquitous, and intelligent nature of information technology (IT) utilization in organizations and the society to help IT users better develop their usage and coping strategies.
