ChatGPT – a disruptive technology to critical thinking?

Abstract

ChatGPT can answer questions in seconds with novel, humanlike, and often seemingly high-quality responses. It is tempting to simply rely on such technology instead of going through the cognitive process of critical thinking, as demonstrated in a recent case where a lawyer used fake cases from ChatGPT in court instead of doing his own legal research. Our study investigates factors affecting people’s critical thinking behaviors, especially whether they exercise critical thinking while using ChatGPT.
