Detecting Smishing Attacks: An Exploration of Spam SMS

Sat, November 18, 4:30 to 6:00pm, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Floor: Marquis Level, M107

Abstract

Smishing is a cyber-attack that targets mobile phone users to steal sensitive information or documents using short messaging services (SMS). Though mobile phone service providers are continuously trying to filter malicious text messages, still, these filtering processes do not work well for multi-faced attack techniques. Reviewing the smashing literature, this research envisages a framework for smishing attack identification and empirically validates the framework using the smishing dataset. This research will contribute to the cybersecurity literature by extending the knowledge about smashing attack identification techniques as well as will contribute to protecting mobile phone users from falling victim to smishing attacks.
