On the Design and Development of a Master of Science in Health Information Technology

Abstract

An interdisciplinary group of faculty from units across a mid-sized university developed a Master of Science in Health Information Technology using existing courses and resources along with a modest development of new health-related courses. This paper describes the motivation for the degree program, the goals of the degree program, the degree requirements, and program assessment data. A model is offered for faculty interested in developing interdisciplinary degree programs in the face of financial constraints.
