Does Context Matter? The Effect of AI Disclosure on Evaluations of Cybersecurity Documentations

Abstract

SMEs are vulnerable to cyberattacks. Unfortunately, most lack the resources to reinforce cyber defenses by creating and updating comprehensive policies and documentation with competent cybersecurity experts. For SMEs in underdeveloped economies struggling to survive, this may be expensive. SMEs may therefore benefit from generative AI solutions. Recent research shows that AI disclosure does not affect consumer evaluations. However, most extant studies were conducted in literary contexts and Western cultures. We replicate the experiments in a cybersecurity context and African settings with relatively high-power distance. We explore the conditions in which AI disclosure would not significantly affect evaluations in this context.
