Islam in Flemish prisons: lived experiences of Muslim men

Abstract

Research, media and political debates on Islam in Belgian prisons has often focussed on radicalization and essentialized this religion to a basis for future danger. This research gives incarcerated Muslim men a voice and shows how Islam can provide a way of coping with prison life, finding structure and peace and giving hope for the future.
