Sexual offending in youth revisited: stories of recidivism and desistance

Abstract

With an average follow-up period of over 20 years, this presentation will provide insight into recidivism (sexual and other delinquency), and desistance for a large sample of 1525 youths with a history of sexual offending. Register data, including criminal records, and prosecution files were analyzed, and results highlight the various pathways youths embark on after having committed an initial sexual offense. Dynamic risk and protective factors will be discussed.
