COVID-19 heightened economic unrest served to heighten the migration flow out of depressed regions including Africa and Asia as well as the Caribbean, South and Central America. At the same time, the desired destinations included Western Europe, the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada, making migration a hot political topic leading to a number of actions that are not only questionable (forces deportations via flights) or geo-political pressure to curtain once open regional borders (a USA tactic in addition to forced deportation). Racism seems to play a role in these policy decisions. We examine the nature and extent of these comparative policies.
