The dark figure of cybercrime in Romania

Abstract

This paper analyses the gap between the actual number of cybercrimes committed in Romania and those reported to authorities. It aims to show how dark figure distorts Romanian official crime statistics and influences our understanding of crime rates and patterns.
Given the Romanian particularities both in the ways of commiting and in investigating cybercrime, determining and examining key influencing factors of the dark figure of cybercrime is essential for our complete comprehension on how to overcome this rapid-growing phenomenon.
