Organized crime in real estate transactions

Abstract

Real estate trading – due to the value of the transaction, is a frequent subject of criminal activity. In particular, the victims of fraudulent activities of criminal groups are people in difficult life situations or elderly people who are unable to carry out complex transactions such as the sale of real estate. For the purposes of this presentation, there were analysed the activity of organized criminal groups in real estate market. The scope of research included the last 10 years in Poland. The conclusions from this research can be used for preventive activities, including educating the society and sensitizing them to specific types of behaviour, as well as facilitating the prosecution of this type of criminal activities. The author of the research also works as a notary, she will present the issue from both a criminological and civil law perspective.
