P024. Criminological responses to animal abuse: a proposal for intervention in the field of alternative measures to imprisonment (AMI)

Thu, September 4, 6:45 to 8:00pm, Other Venues, Poster Venue

Abstract

The aim of this research is to propose an intervention programme for people who, having been sentenced to imprisonment for crimes against animals, have their sentence suspended on condition that they participate in an educational programme. Through a review of the existing scientific literature, statistical data and interviews with experts, the most significant aspects of a phenomenon or social problem that is becoming more and more important due to the social awareness and seriousness of the issue are collected. The proposed programme consists of 22 sessions distributed in 5 modules through which the aim is to educate in aspects such as animal welfare, the development of personal skills and taking responsibility, among others. This programme is presented as an essential tool for the rehabilitation and re-education of people who have mistreated or committed crimes against animals, thus contributing to the prevention of future crimes and promoting the welfare and protection of animals in society.
