Expressions of honour-based violence: results of a systematic review

Fri, September 5, 3:30 to 4:45pm, Deree | Classrooms, DC 703

Abstract

This research aims to update the state of the art concerning the main expressions of honour-based violence to enhance understanding of the sociocultural system as a continuum. Using a critical systematic review based on two international databases, Scopus and Web of Science, we identified 3,138 records, resulting in a comprehensive analysis of 110 papers. The findings indicate an increased academic focus on honour-based violence, particularly on nine main expressions of violence. After defining and exploring these expressions, the study suggests classifying them based on their intended purpose. Accordingly, it distinguishes between preventive and restorative forms of violence, enhancing understanding of honour-based violence and enabling more effective approaches to preventive and protective policies.
