Enhancing Parenting Skills Among Incarcerated Fathers: Insights and Policy Recommendations from the NESTOR Project

Fri, September 5, 9:30 to 10:45am, Communications Building (CN), CN 2114

Abstract

The NESTOR project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme (ΚΑ3), aimed to enhance parenting skills among incarcerated fathers in Greece to strengthen family bonds and support rehabilitation. Implemented in 19 prisons, the project established 32 parenting schools and trained 405 fathers using transformative learning principles. Despite challenges such as resource limitations and short program duration, the project highlights the transformative potential of parental education in reducing recidivism and fostering reintegration. Policy recommendations include institutionalising such programs, expanding child-friendly visitation facilities, and integrating lifelong learning into correctional systems
