Imprisonment represents a great burden not only for prisoners, but also for their relationships, parenting and has an impact on the welfare of children and the functioning of the family as a whole. Family and social support in general are considered to be one of the important desistance factors. The poster presents partial results from two expert investigations that dealt with the issue of families of prisoners. The first of them is a questionnaire survey among prison employees in Czech prisons (N=175). The second source of our data was semi-structured interviews with informants mainly from the non-state sector (N=4) who work in prisons and focus on the issues of families of prisoners. The poster presents experience and opinions regarding the family as an important source of social support for the prisoner and the effects of imprisonment on the prisoner's family, including his minor children.
