An urgent priority in the United States is understanding how to best manage the release of people charged with violent extremism-related offenses from incarceration back into the community. Increasingly, officials and researchers alike have voiced concerns that violent extremists may reengage in violent extremism or others recidivate after being released from prison. This paper will present findings that have been collated and synthesized from multiple sources – 1) published academic and policy-focused literature, 2) interviews with both stakeholders and individuals with lived experience, 3) a survey of subject matter experts, and 4) a workshop of practitioners and subject matter experts. The aim of this paper is to be a resource for community supervision officers when managing a violent extremist client.
