Tourists surveyed: safety perception and opinions on crime prevention strategies.

Abstract

This presentation discusses the final results of a survey on tourist, administered in Malaga (Spain) along the year 2023, a work carried out by the COPO Network (Institute of Criminology, University of Malaga). Tourists were inquired about their victimization experiences, their safety perception and fear of crime, their self-protection strategies, as well as their effectiveness perception about different crime prevention public strategies in place, such as the police presence in public spaces or the office for tourist assistance managed by the police. Tourists’ perceptions will be specifically discussed and compared with the relevant literature on the topic.
