Fri, September 5, 5:00 to 6:15pm, Deree | Classrooms, DC 601

Abstract

This presentation shows the results obtained through interviews conducted with 27 women who provide or have provided paid sexual services in Catalonia. The aim of the study is to understand the experiences of victimization of these women, both those that have occurred throughout their life history and those related to the activity. In this sense, we analyzed the forms of victimization experienced during the activity, the reaction to the victimization, its impact, as well as the previous violence suffered. The analyses reveal that most women have suffered some type of violence during the activity, mainly from clients, and that a minority have reported the incidents to the police. The results also show that a high percentage have suffered sexual violence in childhood and intimate partner violence.
