The SATNAV Project is a comprehensive school-based programme of change fostering individual morality and moral contexts. Grounded in Situational Action Theory (SAT) and modern pedagogical approaches —and prompted by the shortcomings of punitive disciplinary practices—the project features a longitudinal, participatory, and collaboratively designed research approach developed with ongoing practitioner input. It entails targeted interventions to enhance individual moral development in schools in the UK, Sweden, and China, with the ultimate goal of concurrently integrating prosocial moral values into both the academic and extracurricular fabric of the school environment, as well as revising broader elements such as teacher-student relationships, behaviour policies, staff recruitment and training, and community engagement.
This paper will detail the theoretical, empirical and pedagogical underpinnings of the SATNAV programme, and outline the development, implementation and evaluation status of the various interlinked components of this comprehensive school-wide programme.
