The Prevalence Innovation Forum: Prevalence Research in Human Trafficking

Fri, September 5, 5:00 to 6:15pm, Deree | Arts Center Building, Arts Center Deree 001

Abstract

Research methods that seek to document the prevalence of human trafficking, either for advocacy or intervention evaluation, is still in its infancy. Numerous organizations attempt to provide estimates on various types of human trafficking in annual or biannual reports. Despite significant progress in recent years, significant conceptual and empirical challenges remain, especially in providing hotspot data. The Prevalence Reduction Innovation Forum project sought to bridge this gap in research by testing the various sampling methods in prevalence estimation in selected hotspots across Brazil, Costa Rica, Morocco, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Tunisia. The paper presents an extended commentary from the seven studies, offers cost-analysis estimates, and shares lessons and recommendations for similar projects in the future.
